For the food hounds heading to the Capital Pride Festival on Sunday, June 12, consider a stop at Paul bakery at the Navy Memorial, if you’ve not yet done so. Just a block from all the fun, gourmands will find relief from the heartier country-fair fare at the festival. (Not to knock the funnel cakes; it’s just that I’ve never had one. I’m guessing it tastes like a churro minus the cinnamon.)

Granted, rather than feeling like a trip to Paris, Paul might feel like a trip to EPCOT’s France pavilion. Then again, I was born in Paris and I adore the Disney version of France. A waiter at the restaurant there even tried to shortchange me – very authentic.

As for Paul’s vittles, the husband and I stopped by a couple weeks ago for lunch and were amply satisfied. There’s something decadently French about eating meat with butter on good bread. Tomorrow, I’m hoping to bypass savory for some breakfast sweet.

I had salami, gherkins and butter on a small baguette. And an Orangina, of course.

What will go best with tomorrow's Capital Pride coffee?

The macaron look beautiful, but I cannot afford them.
